The Dreams

If you remember the blog post I made about nightmares, you will recall that for weeks I was dreaming about robots chasing me and ants eating me alive while I tried fighting back and blowing things up. It was really Sarah Connor meets MacGyver!

Anyway, since that time I've had 3 dreams about the baby, 2 of which involve gender.

The first dream was pretty simple and straightforward. I accidentally found out that the baby was a girl based on something the doctor wrote down in my file. I recall not wanting to find out. My interpretation of this dream is somewhat unbelievable but bare with me. I have friends who can't understand why I want to find out the gender of the baby. I can't explain it expect that it is a natural feeling and decision Elijah and I have made together. Anyway, I believe this dream was my body's way of showing me how it will be if I tried to avoid finding out the gender. No matter what I do or how I try to avoid finding out, I will always find out. As to the gender my dream revealed, I can't comment.

The second dream came in the same night. I recall going into labor. Elijah was in a meeting and so I went to the hospital on my own and met him there. When I arrived the nurses rushed me to my room and helped me settle in. Awhile later my nurse came back and told me it was almost time. She asked me to walk around with her to stimulate the labor further and do a few ball exercises. By this time Elijah was with me. I finally delivered and it was an easy straightforward delivery and the baby was healthy. The nurses took the baby to clean up before handing it to me. The dream ended before I could find out the gender. I have no interpretation for this except this dream came at the end of a very hard and rough week for me. I think God graciously allowed me to have this dream to calm me and remind me that He was in control no matter what happened.

The third and final dream happened just this morning. Please be warned that this is the most bizarre dream I've ever had (It tops the robots!) and if you can't handle weird then don't read on. Here goes… Elijah and I decided it was time to find out the gender. So I pushed and pushed and delivered the baby to find that it was a girl. Then I tried to put her back when I realized that she wouldn't be able to breathe because the umbilical cord and placenta had been separated. So we called our doctor and told him what happened. He said that the baby will be okay even if she isn't full term. He said to keep her wrapped up tightly and warm at all times and she will be okay. After that we showed her to all our family and friends. Then the dream ended. I told you it was bizarre. My only understanding of this dream is that as we get closer to finding out the gender of the baby I'm just getting more and more excited.

As to the gender, I cannot understand fully but I have a theory based on Freud's work. Because I'm dreaming of a girl my subconscious is telling me that what I really want is a girl, even if while awake and conscious I have no strong preference either way. Despite the dreams, and I haven't told many this (probably for fear of being wrong), I have a feeling that I'm carrying a boy. Anyway, for now I will continue to dream of a happy and healthy baby no matter what the gender!

  1. Amen! That's what we parents pray and hope for at all times... that our baby (either boy/girl) is happy & healthy always!

Surely, the excitement comes and increases as the seconds go by. In the meantime, think of happy thoughts! Cheers! :)

    WOW.

Elijah must have sped really fast or he was simply teleported by the Spirit. 8-)

  5. When I told Elijah the dream, his first question was, "What does the baby look like?" All I could say was, "She is gorgeous!" LOL
